A very short distance along Via Mazzini from the Parish Church of Sant Andrea, and on the opposite side of the way, we see the arches of a house which was once the Buonaparte family residence, Casa Buonaparte. Not everyone knows that Napoleon's forebears were originally from Sarzana: it was actually Francesco Buonaparte of Sarzana who was sent to Corsica in 1529 (as a functionary of the Genoese Republic) who started the Corsican branch of the family. The sign above the arches, between the two windows, records this little piece of history.
